Eat-well,-travel-often

If you appreciate the lack of sophistication and look for a place to eat that will bring you closer to the true soul of the island go for the simplicity of pure Mediterranean magic at Trata. You will be rewarded with the palatable treasures of a menu that changes daily according to seasonality and of course, to the freshness of the available ingredients.

First time in Paros? Then you probably do not know about the traditional restaurant serving the most delicious fish on the island. This is one of the top gastronomical destinations in the Cyclades, so take notice: Unpretentious and focused exclusively on local produce, Trata, a traditional family-owned taverna, is a great restaurant where you will taste the closest you can find to the home made dishes prepared by Greek mothers for their families.

Trata taverna (the name translates in The Trawler) is run by Nikoleta Kypraiou, her husband Lefteris (who was born and raised on the island), and their two daughters Georgia and Eleni. The couple returned to the island 20 years ago, with a vision to create a place of gastronomical tradition and authenticity. Parian recipes, fresh fish and the locally produced vegetables, salads and herbs dominate a menu that heralds the come-back of a highly seductive and absolutely captivating authenticity, exuding the aroma and tastes of Greece.

The owner’s friendship with all the island’s fishermen turns out to be the cuisine’s top privilege, which you will enjoy as soon as you taste the day’s fish. Don’t think twice before you order a fish here. It will be straight from the day’s catch to Trata’s pan /grill / oven. Just ask Nikoleta to reveal the day’s specialty and she will get you the best and most delicious fish on the island. We tasted exquisite sea breams and red mullets (barbounia), but it is highly possible that while you are seated at your table (day or night) you will see an unexpected fisherman pass by your table carrying his catch directly to the kitchen. If this happens, it would be a good idea to make an additional order of whatever you saw!

To complete the experience, we recommend that you also try the exceptional zucchini croquettes (kolokythokeftedes) or the chickpeas cooked and served in a clay pot. If you are a meat afficionado, do not worry: Trata -despite being a fish taverna- serves a fantastic cutlet (bifteki). Bon appetit!
